Storage Hints
- Rent the space you need and pack the space full.
- Plan your storage space. Make sure you place the
items that you will need access to most often in the front. Allow room to walk.
- Make up an inventory of your stored items and keep
it in a safe place at home or in a safe deposit box.
- Use uniform size boxes for easy stacking. Make sure they are
strong enough to hold 25-30 pounds. It is best not to put too much in each box.
- Stack lighter boxes on top of heavier ones.
- Label your boxes on all four sides. Make sure boxes
are properly sealed.
- Dishes, glasses and fragile items should be wrapped
in bubble wrap or place in dish pack boxes. These boxes should always be stacked on top and marked "fragile".
- Larger appliances and furniture with drawers make
excellent storage places for blankets, towels, knickknacks and hard to pack items.
- Use protective covers (available at our retail
center) for furniture and mattress sets.
- Pictures and mirrors should be packed in mirror
crates and marked "fragile" and stacked on end.
- Sofas and loveseats can be stored on end to save
floor space.
- Pace your stored items on 2x4 boards or on pallets
to guard against dampness. Any concrete floor may become cold and damp. Prepare your space by placing a protective cover on
the floor under your stored goods.
- Avoid placing heavy or sharp objects on top of
upholstered furniture.
- If you stand a mattress set on end, "prop" it up,
so they stand straight.
- Shovels, hoes, rakes, and hoses can be stored together
in empty trash cans. Stack extra cans inside one another.
- Caution: It is against the law to store materials deemed
HAZARDOUS or COMBUSTIBLE such as gasoline, solvents, paint, fertilizer, etc. Drain all remaining gasoline from lawn equipment,
boats, ATVs, etc.
